I provide neuropsychological assessment and consultation for adults and older adults experiencing changes in thinking, memory, and everyday functioning.
My approach is collaborative and practical, with a focus on making sense of cognitive changes and providing clear, yet clinically useful guidance on next steps for individuals, families, and referrers.
Comprehensive Neuropsychological Assessment
A comprehensive neuropsychological assessment provides a detailed evaluation of cognitive functioning, including memory, attention, problem-solving, and everyday functioning.
This type of assessment is recommended when there are:
- concerns about cognitive decline or dementia
- changes following stroke, brain injury, or medical illness
- questions about decision-making capacity
- complex presentations where diagnosis or contributing factors are unclear
The assessment typically involves:
- clinical interview
- in-person cognitive testing
- review of relevant medical information
- a detailed written report
- feedback and recommendations
The aim is to provide an overview of your thinking skills and practical guidance to support next steps in care, treatment, or planning.I do not provide assessment for neurodevelopmental conditions (e.g. ADHD or Autism Spectrum Disorder)
Cognitive Baseline / Focused Assessment
A focused cognitive assessment provides a brief evaluation of key areas of thinking and memory.
This may be helpful when:
- there are early or mild concerns about cognitive change
- a baseline is needed for future comparison
These assessments are shorter than a comprehensive evaluation and include:
- clinical interview
- review of relevant medical information
- selected cognitive testing
- a brief written summary
Where appropriate, recommendations may include whether a more comprehensive neuropsychological assessment is indicated.Clinical Consultation
Consultation is available for individuals, families, and professionals seeking guidance around cognitive or neuropsychological concerns.
This may include:
- understanding changes in thinking or behaviour
- advice regarding next steps or appropriate referrals
- clarification of whether formal assessment is requiredProfessional Supervision
I provide supervision for psychologists undertaking neuropsychological assessments in both public and private settings. My experience is primarily in older adult and rehabilitation settings, including work with individuals experiencing cognitive changes in the context of medical and neurological conditions.I also provide supervision for clinicians undertaking the Postgraduate Diploma in Neuropsychology at the University of Otago, NZ.
